For many New Englanders, this is their favorite time of the year! Fall is packed with watching football, playing in the leaves, pumpkin patches, and getting our home ready for the winter months ahead. To make sure that your house is ready to handle the elements, follow some of these home maintenance items.
1. Energy Audit: Through thermal imaging and a visual inspection, you can get an inside look at your homes energy efficiency. They will provide you with a list of options to improve your house whether upgrading to ENERGY star appliances to adding new insulation to your home.
2. Seal Air Leaks: It is well-known that poor insulation can lead to heat loss through your walls, ceilings, floors and attic, so make sure your home is properly insulated. But, on top of this, air leaks can be found around windows, doors, lighting fixture, outlets and more!
3. Clean Your Gutters: After all the leaves have fallen, clean out your gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters can cause water to build up, and it can damage your roof, siding or foundation.
4. Trim Tree Branches: Extra weight from snow and ice can cause tree branches so much extra stress. That often leads to them breaking off and crashing down. This can become a big problem if the branches are handing over your house because that leaves your roof, gutters and siding vulnerable to potential damage. Trim branches back a good 8-10 feel away from your home.
